Job Posting TitleDevOps Engineer – (Infrastructure & Software Development for Kubernetes Platform)OverviewWe are seeking skilled DevOps Engineers for a key position supporting one of Japan’s largest tech-driven enterprises. This role involves working with container platform technologies to support Rakuten’s core services, such as Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Pay, and Rakuten Travel. Candidates will work in a high-scale, high-impact environment managing over 10,000 servers and 100,000 containers. We welcome engineers with strong infrastructure and development experience, as well as those aiming for long-term, full-time employment.Responsibilities
  • Node/Cluster provisioning
  • Alert/incident response and countermeasure implementation
  • OS/Middleware patching and updates
  • Security compliance and operational audit fulfillment
  • Night-time release monitoring and support
  • Documentation and production approval processes
  • Development:
    • Requirement gathering, system design, and documentation
    • Automation for provisioning and updates (cluster/node/OS/middleware)
    • Building self-healing mechanisms
  • User & Migration Support:
    • Support for advanced cases beyond helpdesk scope
    • Assistance in migrating legacy systems to a new private cloud platform
Required Skills And Experience
  • 3+ years of software development experience including requirement definition, design, testing, implementation, and release (Golang/Python)
  • 3+ years of infrastructure operations experience with production-level traffic (e.g., Linux, Kubernetes, Istio, Nginx, Mesos, Marathon)
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)*
  • *If not currently certified, candidates must obtain CKA within 3 months of joining. Certification costs are not covered.
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for stable system operations and meeting deadlines
  • Deep knowledge and troubleshooting experience in Kubernetes, Linux, and container platforms
  • Experience operating large-scale systems (100+ servers)
  • Familiarity with strict infrastructure documentation and approval workflows
Language Requirements
  • TOEIC 600+ acceptable if native Japanese speaker, with commitment to reach TOEIC 800+ and improve English to business level
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with Mesos/Marathon
  • Advanced Golang proficiency
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience automating large-scale system operations
  • Development experience with mid-to-large-scale applications
  • Hands-on experience with various monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Cortex, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, Elasticsearch, Kibana)
  • Experience with private and/or public cloud environments
  • Contribution to open-source software projects
